PM to Hold Consultation on a Comprehensive Plan for a Tourism Revolution
Prime Minister Netanyahu: "Possible to Bring an Additional 1 Million Tourists to Israel "
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that, "It is possible to bring an additional 1 million tourists per annum to Israel in the near future." The Prime Minister intends to hold a discussion on the issue next week with Finance Minister Yuval Steinitz, Regional Development Minister Silvan Shalom, Tourism Minister Stas Misezhnikov and Culture and Sport Minister Limor Livnat. Prime Minister Netanyahu believes that Christian historical sites have a great unrealized potential that could assist the Israeli economy in general, and the development of the Galilee in particular. The Prime Minister has previously raised the need for a comprehensive plan that would lead to a revolution in the tourism sector. His tour of the Galilee yesterday, strengthened this assessment. He was surprised by the low number of visitors at certain sites and said that a correct policy that includes - inter alia - the rehabilitation of various sites would lead to a significant increase in incoming tourism, create jobs and increase revenues.
